Behaviour & Tank Compatibility

The Salvini is a highly territorial predator. Unlike dwarf cichlids, they have a "big fish" attitude and will defend their space vigorously. They are best kept with other robust Central American cichlids of similar size, such as Firemouths or Jack Dempseys, in a large aquarium. Avoid keeping them with small, peaceful fish like Tetras or Guppies, as the Salvini will likely view them as food. If kept as a breeding pair, they become even more protective of their territory.
